Fire drill on a grand scale

Scenario: Recyclable materials catch fire

Oppenwehe. The exercise scenario looked threatening. Thick smoke came out of the warehouse for recyclable waste bags at the Wüppenhorst Entsorgung company in Oppenwehe.

The fire brigade groups Oppenwehe, Oppendorf and Wehdem/Westrup were involved. "The main focus in this exercise was on water delivery on the company premises," explained platoon leader Dennis Meier. "If a fire breaks out here, water supply is the most important issue," company boss Christian Wüppenhorst is sure.

The underground water cistern (400m³) served as the water intake point. "We only recently had the suction connections for the fire brigade renewed," Christian Wüppenhorst made clear. After about an hour, the exercise was successfully completed.

Around 50 firefighters were involved in the operation, once again volunteering their time for the benefit of the citizens of Stemwede. All Corona rules of conduct were observed.
